You do realize that with good care, a good diet, not junk seed, but a good pellet, good quality nuts and seeds and fresh veggies everyday they can live to be 40-60 years old. You will not spoil him if you comfort him when he needs you, in fact this will make him feel safe and loved and strong and he will grow up to be a independent bird. He's going to need a ton of attention all babies do. You wouldn't expect a human baby to learn how to read at the age of 5 months. He's a baby, think of him in terms of having a human baby. Start a emergency vet fund now by putting your change in a jar at the end of the day, there is nothing more heart breaking than people who come on here with a sick or dying bird who don't have the funds to take it to the vet. Do you have a vet? All babies should get a baseline vet check to make sure their healthy. Also don't let them clip his wings, fledging and food independence go hand in hand. Too hot and you will burn his crop to cold and you will promote yeast. You can give it to him from a spoon and get a thermometer to make sure it's between 103-110 degrees F. You need to make sure you have some hand feeding formula when you bring him home so that if he starts crying you can give him some comfort food. Too's in the wild don't wean sometimes until they are 2 years old. I don't care what they will tell you at the store, he will not be weaned at 5 months old. Some are a bit quicker at it than others though so keep that in mind. It makes their mind work and they develop problem solving skills. It is too darn cute watching them offer different behaviors to get the reward. Then move on and wait for them to offer another behavior. Give it a hand cue or word and see that they are consistent. When using a clicker with a puppy we let the puppy offer a variety of behaviors. See something cute or that you like? If so, teach that. Many of my parrots though liked praise (bridge word) better as they like the drama. Read on clicker training and they talk about loading the charger. Birds are quite observant thus are good at this game. Use a dixie cup which is easy to knock over. A fun game as they get older and like a food is the shell game. Then add the words (words mean nothing but they do read body language). Do the movement and when they follow tell them good bird. Teaching yes and no is easy as they follow your hand. Parents do teach them what to eat so it will be your job now. Introduce different foods.one for you and one for him. She then would walk right over and step up. She might run back and forth a couple of times as I just stood still. I would ask mine to step up and rest my hand in a spot. They are hypervigilant to dangers around them Let them get the lay of the land before moving in on them. In the wild the parents would teach this one what is safe/not safe, what to eat. You can start training at that age but make it age appropriate.
